Klout is being shutdown on 25th May 2018.
The Klout platform ran a social media influencer score rating system that allowed users to gauge their popularity, visibility and perception to others across multiple social media platforms. It assessed your post frequency, responses and interactions then gave you a score and offered advice on how to improve your standing.
Klout was purchased in 2014 by Lithium – who announced that is was closing the service on 25th May 2018 (also interestingly enough is the same date that the European GDPR requirements come into force – possibly pointing to issues surrounding its inability to comply with the new data protection regulations). However, Lithium CEO Peter Hess, did hint that concept of Klout is not totally dead:
…we will be looking to improve agent productivity within SMM and improve the overall user experience in Community through the application of AI, while we are also planning the launch of a new social impact scoring methodology based on Twitter.
What this all means to current users’ data is a little unclear. We have reached out to Lithium, but have not yet had a reply. We’ll update the post as soon as we get an answer.
